Lauraceae are among the three main families of the arboreal component of the forests in Paraná, The Atlantic Rainforest contains the largest number of species (59 spp.), followed by the Araucaria Rainforest (31 spp.), Semideciduous Forest (23 spp.), Savanna (9 spp.), and Grasslands (2 spp.).

Lauraceae is the main family in structural expression and species richness in the Montane Dense Ombrophilous Forest composition within the Lauráceas State Park, both for the stratum of adult trees and in the regrowth. A remarkable aspect was that it even surpassed the Myrtaceae family in number of species, something rarely found in southern and southeastern Brazilian forests.

A new species of Ocotea Aubl. (Lauraceae), Ocotea marumbiensis Brotto & Baitello, occurs in the Atlantic Forest in the states of Parana and Santa Catarina, southern Brazil.

A new species of Ocotea Aubl. (Lauraceae), Ocotea koscinskii Baitello & Brotto, occurs in the Atlantic Forest in the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
