Use of target capture Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) for systematic investigation of
Sida sect. Malacroideae (Malvoideae, Malvaceae)

Project summary:

The genus Sida L. is complex and extensive within the Malvaceae family, comprising approximately 200 species across 11 sections. Sida sect. Malacroideae stands out with 29 species, mostly in South America. Taxonomic studies are scarce, but molecular research suggests a potential new genus. Target Capture technique, yet unexplored in Sida, could be pivotal for future investigations. A visit to Kew Gardens Herbarium in England is crucial to enrich taxonomic, phylogenetic, and biogeographical information, particularly of African specimens.
