Exploring footprints of domestication of sago palm (Metroxylon sagu Rottb.) through phylogenetics

Project summary:

Metroxylon sagu is a high-starch-yielding palm cultivated before rice and believed to have expanded to Southeast Asia like the Philippines anthropogenically. Anthropological accounts reported sago as a trade item in the past between Mindanao and Indonesia; this movement can be tested using herbarium specimens and field samples through phylogenetic studies.
