Advancements on the taxonomy and evolutionary history of Gaylussacia Kunth (Ericaceae, Vaccinioideae)
Project summary:
The genus Gaylussacia Kunth, belonging to Vaccinioideae, tribe Vaccineae, includes 54 species distributed throughout North and South America and presents numerous taxonomic challenges. Phylogenetic studies on Gaylussacia are scarce, both in terms of sample size and DNA regions analyzed, as well as in the criteria for analysis, yielding uncertain relationships that require further investigation, including the monophyly of the genus and its internal relationships. In this context, field and laboratory studies are intended to be conducted to better understand the genus Gaylussacia.
