Chromosome and genome size evolution in the subgenus Hitcheniopsis of the ginger genus Curcuma L.

Project summary:

The overall aim of my PhD project is to address the riddles responsible for the variation of genome size, its variation and biogeography in tropical seasonal dormant ginger genus Curcuma. Financial support for molecular expenses has already been granted from my supervisor’s lab projects. The funding requested here is specifically to cover visits to botanical gardens housing living accessions for collection of fresh root tips and leaves sample which do not yet have vouchers, one will be made and deposited in E and SING herbaria respectively.
