Systematic and biogeography of Coccoloba P. Browne (Polygonaceae)
Project summary:
Investigations about origin, evolution, relationships among species and the historical processes that led to the distribution of the current lineages, are essential for a better understanding of biodiversity. Coccoloba is a monophyletic genus of Polygonaceae distributed in the neotropics with four diversity centers: Caribbean Islands, Mesoamerica, Amazon and Atlantic Forest. We aim to perform a biogeographic and phylogenetic reconstruction to understand the evolutionary processes and the relationships among the species of the genus in the Neotropical forests.
