Objective:
The project aims to improve the facility and upgrade the services of CLP by increasing the number of herbarium collections, barcoding and digitization of the herbarium vouchers and development of website and database.
Timetable:
The project is intended to be implemented for 1.5 years (January 2023 - June 2024). The collection of the plant specimen will be simultaneously done with the relabeling and updating of the existing herbarium collection from the first to fourth quarter of the 2023. While waiting for the supplies, the assigned staff will perform the inventory of the existing vouchers to count, document and record the herbarium collections both damaged and in good condition.
The database and website development will be done on the last quarter of 2023. Meanwhile, scanning of the existing voucher for digitization and barcoding and uploading of the scanned images in the database will be conducted on the first and second quarter of 2024. A technical report will be drafted on the last 2 months of the project implementation (May to June 2024).

The collection of plant specimens can be incorporated with the implementation of FPRDI projects on resource survey and inventory, biodiversity assessment and ethnobotanical studies in different areas in the country. Coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the National Commission for Indigenous People (NCIP) will be done to facilitate the application for necessary permit such as Gratuitous Permit (GP) and Free Prior Informed Consent (FPIC), respectively.
The processing of the specimens will be conducted in the facility with the help of the FPRDI herbarium personnel. Supplies (mounting board, printer, presser, etc.) will be purchased for the relabeling of the herbarium vouchers following the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group (APG) Classification System.
The Institute has recently purchased Microtek herbarium scanner with barcoding machine which can be used in the digitization of the herbarium vouchers. A Research Assistant will be tapped for the website and database development/management and to facilitate the uploading and processing of images. The hosting of the website will be outsourced. This will be an open access herbarium database.
