Objective:
MOL herbarium contains a unique collection of about 60000 herbarium specimens, including the largest known collection of Peruvian tree specimens. Over half of the sheets at MOL were digitized, supported by the Atrium Project, but many specimens remain unprocessed. We propose to continue working with the missing specimens (4500 specimens) by following three objectives:
1.Enhancement of collection management and curation practices
2.Systematization and digitization of specimens, with tree collections and type material (42 types).
3.Publish information obtained in the study to be freely available
Timetable:
The Project will be executed in 7 months doing the following activities:
1. Curatorship of all specimens (estimated 4500 specimens):
The intern will do this activity in the first and second month (60 days).
2.Barcoding of the type specimens (currently numbering 42 types):
The intern will do this activity in the second month (30 days)
3.Systematization of the information on an excel file:
The intern will do this activity in the third and fourth month (60 days)
4.Digitization of the 3000 sheets:
The intern will do this activity from the third to the fifth month (90 days)
5.Debugging the database generated (mistakes in the family or scientific name, author, locality, etc.) - The intern will do this activity the sixth month (30 days)
6.Publish the list on the Herbarium MOL website:
The web designer will do this activity in the sixth month (30 days)
7. Upload the specimen photo to Atrium:
The web designer will do this activity in the sixth month (30 days)

Plan:
1.Improving herbarium workflow: Barcode labels will be added to herbarium specimens, starting with our type collections. Following sanitary cooling treatment, the intern will carefully examine every specimen as it is processed, incorporating any fragmented material into envelopes, and re-conditioning (replacing labels and/or remounting specimens) specimens as required.
2.Collection data from the herbarium label (collector(s) and collection number, scientific name, determiner, collection date, georeferenced locality data, phenology and any other pertinent data and information) will be annotated into our database.The intern will operate the custom-designed light box and digital photographic equipment housed at MOL to make high-resolution digital images of the specimens. Following imaging, careful review of all image data and codes will be performed, to harmonize with all specimen data in the database.
3. With the help of a web designer, the list of the specimens and collections data, along with the high-resolution images of specimens will be published on the website of the Herbarium MOL (https://spacemode.net/herbario1/somos.htm) and disseminated to the global research community. A great deal of data and images of MOL-based specimens, produced through collaboration in the Atrium project ( http://atrium.andesamazon.org/) will be updated and integrated into our new web platform. Availability of data will be promoted on various platforms (Facebook of the Herbarium and University)
