Objective:
From TAN, a National herbarium in Madagascar, ca 3250 bryophytes occurrences have been recorded from GBIF project in 2019 (https://www.gbif.org/fr/dataset/) but still many specimens are in newspapers and shipping boxes. It is time that these collections get some attention to keep these specimens to be well-conserved and more accessible.
With the ambition to further curate and safely rehouse the long tucked-away collections, we aim to ensure accessibility and reduce the lack of exposure of Bryophytes collections with the associated eco-biogeographical data.

The curation status of Bryophytes collections hosted at TAN herbarium is heterogeneous: some with label and pre-identification, others just kept in collection bags.
To reach to the project’s goal, we plan to do the following tasks:
1. Backlog specimens processing
We will gather all the bryophytes collections at the herbarium but not yet processed. Most of them are long ago collected, some came from localities that do not exist anymore (so valuable for botanical research)
2. Plant identification Specimen labelling
Bryophytes collections will be identified to the further possible accurate taxonomic level.
A semi-automated workflow to get standardized labels through Excel and Word will be used to label each identified collection
Collections will be repacked with the newly produced label.
3. Storing in cabinet
We will build one wood cabinet to classify collections.
The labelled and identified specimen will be sorted by taxonomical rank and stored in the furniture: families will be arranged phylogenetically, based on broad consensus among contemporary evolutionary bryologists. Within families, genera and species will be arranged alphabetically.
4. Database development
TROPICOS database (http://legacy.tropicos.org/projectwebportal.aspx?pagename=Bryophytes&projectid=17)will be used to publish data and to share data to GBIF. Data gathered within Brahms database during the Bryophytes GBIF project will be uploaded into TROPICOS to allow subsequent Bryophyte Species Page synthesis
