Objective:
Digitize and make available online the Herbarium Friburguense collection of the highest portion of Serra
do Mar (southeastern Brazil) on virtual platforms; Digitize and make available online the Journal “Boletim Botânico Eugeniana”; Process backlogs and shipping duplicates to other herbaria; Generate an updated and detailed list of species occurring in the highest portion of Serra do Mar; Collect and add recent samples of these and other species missing from the Herbarium Friburguense; Write scientific papers and articles of scientific dissemination.
Timetable:
The project will be executed over a 15-month period, divided into five quarters. Quarter 1 (Months 1-3): Conduct bibliographic and database surveys, initiate backlog processing, species list creation, and conduct a field expedition. Quarter 2 (Months 4-6): Initiate sample and journal digitization, process backlogs and duplicates, create species lists, and conduct a field excursion. Quarter 3 (Months 7-9): Continue digitization, backlog processing, species list creation, duplicates shipping, and conduct a field excursion. Quarter 4 (Months 10-12): Complete digitization, backlog processing, duplicates shipping, field excursion, species list creation, and prepare scientific papers and articles for dissemination. The final three months (Months 13-15) will focus on finalizing the updated and detailed species list, duplicate shipping, and submitting scientific papers and articles for scientific dissemination.

A comprehensive inventory of the existing samples in the Herbarium Friburguense will be conducted to identify the species present and prioritize digitization efforts. The digitized images will be published on virtual platforms, including the INCT-Virtual Herbarium of Flora and Fungi and Reflora Virtual Herbarium. In addition, all 30 volumes of the "Boletim Botânico Eugeniana" will be scanned and made available online through the Institution's/herbarium's website. Duplicate samples stored in the Herbarium will be processed and prepared for distribution to other herbaria. To compile an updated species list, a thorough review of existing literature on the region's flora will be conducted, including all volumes of the "Boletim Botânico Eugeniana" and analysis of existing samples in the Herbarium Friburguense and online virtual herbarium platforms. Based on the initial species list, an analysis of missing species or those already categorised as threatened or not collected for more than 60 years will be prioritised. Four field expeditions will be planned and conducted to collect new samples and additional data. Newly collected samples will be integrated into the Herbarium Friburguense, and duplicate samples will be distributed to other herbaria. Finally, articles on popular science will be written to promote the dissemination of research findings to the general public, while scientific papers on endangered or missing species will be published in peer-reviewed journals.
