Objective:
The objectives are 1. Process backlog specimens, 2. Update the Herbarium database. The JBGP Herbarium is the most important plant collection of the Colombian Caribbean because, during the '80s and '90s, it received specimens from several projects of poorly known Colombian Caribbean localities. From 2009 to 2015, the collection was abandoned due to the lack of funding for maintenance. This grant will contribute to the efforts started in 2015 to recover the herbarium collection creating the current database and mounting and restoring non-processed and damaged specimens.
Timetable:
We expect to finish the activities in three months.
1. Provide training for undergraduate students in Herbarium curation processes (Month 1)
2. Process backlog specimens (Month 2 through Month 3)
3. Taxonomic update of the Herbarium database (Month 1 through Month 3)

Plan:
To achieve the proposed objectives and continuing with the recovery process, we will develop the project in three phases:
1. Provide training for undergraduate students in Herbarium activities
We will make an open call for undergraduate students in biology and other environmental areas to continue our internship program. We will fund two students for two months to assist in the Herbarium. The students will initially participate in a one-week training program in Herbarium activities.
2. Processing backlog specimens.
We will review the specimen backlog. First, we will separate the samples into two groups: samples of two or more copies and samples with a single copy. For samples with copies, we will select one for mounting and processing and the other for exchange with other herbaria. We will revise the labels for all the specimens, and if possible, print missing labels. After the mounting process concludes, we will include these specimens in the herbarium database.
3. Taxonomic update of the Herbarium database
Due to the age of the database, the abandonment period, and the posterior attempts to recover the JBGP Herbarium, the database may contain errors. Before cataloging new records, we will review and validate the information with the Herbarium specimens. We will also curate and update all the specimens.
