Objective:
This project aims to:
1) expand, maintain and organize the collection of Serra da Canastra National Park exsiccates and the municipality of Bambuí and its surroundings;
2) carry out the digitization of the collection;
3) contribute to the floristic knowledge of the region through taxonomic identifications and elaboration and availability of species lists and identification keys;
4) contribute to the formation of students.
Timetable:
I have organized the project timetable in 2 years.
1. Implementing infrastructure improvements (installation of cabinets, computer, digitization equipments) – months 1-2/year 1

3. Mounting, registering, treatment and conservation of existing specimens – months 3-6/year 1 and months 1-2, 5-6/year 2
4. Digitization of the IFMG herbarium existing specimens – month 10-12/year 1

Plan:
- Infracstructure: To be able to expand and maintain our starting collection, we are desperately in need of infrastructure improvements. We would need extra cabinets, a computer and camera equipment for digitization.
- Mounting and digitization: For the mounting process, it would be necessary to have the basic material, such as paper, glue, glass pots and alcohol, for the correct maintenance of the material. Students from the graduation courses at our institution will perform the digitization of the IFMG herbarium.
- Field work and curation: A couple of hundreds of plant specimens have been collected in the surroundings of the municipality of Bambuí in the last years. However, there are still no exsiccates from the Serra da Canastra National Park (SCNP), Minas Gerais state, the main collecting area of this project. We would like to start doing monthly excursions to collect the material.
The collections of fertile material will be made by the method of random walks, seeking to visit the different phytophysiognomies. After herborized, the specimens will be deposited at IFMG and distributed to other herbaria in the region. The material will be identified at the highest possible taxonomic level, with the help of identification keys, guides and expert consultation.
Publication of results will be made in the form of scientific articles in indexed journals. We hope to produce checklists, taxonomic treatments, distribution maps and identification keys for the species collected.
