Objective:
HCIB herbarium houses more than 32,100 specimens; 80 % are Flora of the Baja California peninsula. The objective of this project is begin the digitization of our collection; in a first stage, to have a synoptic representation of the 2100 Baja California Sur state species, later to have the entire Peninsula, and all the species by regions, until complete the entire collection. Finally, our plan is create a digital specimen voucher and link that information to actual database we shared to several consortia.
Timetable:
Under our conditions, personal and facilities, we expect to process 100 vouchers in one 8 hr journey, and the goal is digitize at least 2,000 specimens by month. We will prioritize species from regional flora, Types vouchers; continue after with species from rest of Mexico, and rest of the world. Under this plan, we expect have in digital record all the local Flora of Baja California in 13 months.
1 month after acquisition Photo Light Box we´ll initiate the scanning process

The HCIB herbarium was born in 1985, integrating to date, specimens of native and regional flora of the Peninsula, its Islands and other from Sonoran Desert, among others. HCIB is a strategic regional herbarium and has shared its database depository with others herbarium consortia in platforms such BajaFlora and Flora del Noroeste/SEINET. From its beginnings, our specimens have access by an Excel database, including geographic, ecological and curatorial information. The HCIB herbarium has 17 Holotypes / Isotypes, 2 Neotypes, 4 Paratypes, and 1 Lectotype. Only 8 Type specimens have been digitized (JSTOR). Institutional support has been limited to improve facilities, expand collections or acquire equipment. Digitization has been an alternative to preserve collections and create digital records of important specimens, and regional flora as well. This 2019 we obtained resources to initiate the digitization of HCIB collection; under donations and small acquisitions, now we have a digital camera, copy stand, and ColorGauge Nano Target. This aim of this application is complete a necessary set, acquiring a Photo Light Box ($1,750), a Software, and external disk driver ($210).
