A new scientific collection for Sinaloa: the Herbarium of Culiacan Botanical Garden

The principal goal is process more than 800 specimens backlog, and for 2 years we development a curatorial strategy based in organic management of the collection, we need to strengthen this line of research by purchasing the required materials. Our Herbarium capacity is about 18,000 specimens; however due to the lack of materials the mounting process has been stopped, more than 1000 samples require be finished and included in the database, and subsequently digitizing them.The support will also contribute to maintaining the specimens of the National Palm Collection, from Botanical Garden.
The progress of the herbarium in the last years has been slow but efficient. After 8 years, our team achieved a physical space for the specimens as well as their shelves, we agree collaborations with other institutions, researchers, students and volunteers. In this year, we received more than 600 samples donated from the IBUG Herbarium and CIIDIR Durango Herbarium, from the PhD. Rito Vega Aviña, a flora specialist from Sinaloa state and the thesis work from a student. This year, we obtained the support of 2 young government fellows to work in the process of preparing including drying, mounting and identification, and we will keep the program active for the following year. A government fellow will be responsible for continuing the mounting once the material is had. She will remain until the end of the year 2020 and working from Monday to Saturday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, as well as helping to evaluate and monitor the organic management program that we are implementing. At the end of that period, the grantee must submit a report of the results of the activities carried out. In addition, because our institution have a signed academic agreement with the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS) and we have the potential to incorporate volunteers and students whom would receive training for herbarium management, and botany. To continue growing the collection it is necessary to replace the current dryer with a new one that guarantees the correct boiling of the samples.

3.-Process a specimen backlog, mounting in acid-free sheets and neutral ph adhesive.: April to November.
4.-Development a Organic Integrated Management Program for the HJBC:
4.1.-Design of new trials of organic management: April to October
4.2 Monitoring of the effects of different essentials oils and organic products: May to November
4.3.-Temperature and humidity monitoring and control:May to November
5.-Enter the information to a specialized database: August to December
6.-Finally report of results (fellows and researchers from the garden): December
7.-Publication of a paper about the results of Organic Integrated Management Program to share with botanical community: December
