Cost: $

2000

HUC

Universidad de Córdoba

Objective:

• To process material from the Opuntia genus collected in the xerophytic regions of Colombia
• To systematize and digitize the collection of the Opuntia genus deposited in the Herbarium of the University of Córdoba - HUC
• To publish records of the Opuntia genus in the Biodiversity Information System of Colombia - SiB Colombia.

Plan:

• A review and selection of the specimens to be processed will be carried out, updating the georeferencing of each one. The labels will be prepared according to the format established by the HUC Herbarium. The mounting will be carried out in white double-sided propalcote cardboard of 300 grams. An identifier or code of the herbarium will be assigned to each specimen in the upper left, using a stamp with numbering and acronym of the herbarium. The barcode will be assigned below the herbarium number.
• The Protocol for the Digitalization of herbarium specimens established by the Biological Resources Research Institute Alexander von Humboldt will be used.
Systematization of specimens: A standard template in DarwinCore format will be used for the documentation of biological records in a database carried out in the Excel program.
Digitalization of specimens: image capture will be carried out by means of high-resolution photographs, using the Photo EBox-bio fluorescent light box, Camera control software (EOS Utility 2) and Software to process images (Digital Photo Professional). Each specimen will have a metric ruler and a color chart.
• The process of publishing the information associated with the specimens will be carried out through the following procedure established by the Information System on Biodiversity of Colombia (SiB Colombia): Request registration, Standardize and process the data, Describe and publish the data.

Timetable:

The project will be developed during a period of five months, with working day from 8:00 am - 12 m and from 2:00 - 6:00 pm, developing the following activities chronogram:
• Revision - Selection of specimens: months 1 and 2
• Organization and/or purchase of materials/equipment: month 1
• Taxonomic review, update of the georeferencing of specimens: months 1, 2 and 3
• Label Elaboration: month 3
• Mounting of specimens: months 2 and 3
• Specimens cataloging - bar code assignment: month 3
• Systematization of specimens: months 4 and 5
• Digitalization of specimens: months 4 and 5
• Inclusion of specimens in the collection: month 5
• Integration - Publication of biological records to SiB Colombia: month 5
• Elaboration of final report: month 5
