Objective:

The University Jean Lorougnon Guédé set up a herbarium on the advice of Professor Aké-Assi in 2012. Unfortunately, the attention given to it remains well below the importance of the services that the herbarium can render. This herbarium is the only one of its kind in the interior of the country and contains 2000 samples of which 810 have been scanned. The objective of this project is to improve the conservation conditions of the UJLoG herbarium. Specifically, it will involve :
- setting up the herbarium's old collections;
- digitize the herbarium's samples.

Plan:

For the past two years, the herbarium at the Université Jean Lorougnon Guédé has been enlarged and treated to avoid attacks by wood-boring insects. It now has three (03) cabinets distributed in two rooms with a total of 198 lockers for storing herbarium samples. The various collection missions have made it possible to have 2000 available, 1800 of which have not yet been assembled.
For the assembly of the samples, all the labels will be checked and identified according to the new APG IV nomenclature. Specimens that are damaged or with incomplete information will be removed and/or discarded. Those in good condition will be mounted. Barcodes will be edited and affixed to the specimens in order to allow a permanent traceability of the specimen.
Digitisation is the action of converting analogue information into digital form. The digitisation of samples will reduce handling, transport and the risks associated with the dissociation of samples. In addition, it will make it possible to save scientific data in digital form. Concerning the scientific development, the digitization of this herbarium will make it possible to update and network a large number of scientific data in the west of Côte d'Ivoire.

Timetable:

Project activities will be carried out over a seven-month period in the herbarium of the Université Jean Lorougnon Guédé.
The first three months will be devoted to setting up the herbariums. In month 1, the samples will be sorted and cleaned. Month 2 will be devoted to the production of labels and bar codes. The assembly of the samples on the herbarium papers will enable this activity to be completed in month 3.
Digitization will be carried out over four months. It will start with the affixing of the bar codes on the samples and the acquisition of the computer in month 4. In month 5, all the samples shown will be scanned. A database will be set up to link the scanned samples to their different locations in the Herbarium in the last two months (6 and 7).
