HGI

University of Girona

Objective:

The objective of the project is to begin the digitization process of the herbarium specimens of the HGI. In this moment we are building up the web page of the herbarium and we want to include the images of the herbarium sheets in it. Our herbarium contents around 45,000 specimens of vascular plants and macroalgae and thus, we are aware that the process will be long. However, we consider that the HGI is a very interesting herbarium because it is representative of the vascular flora of Catalonia, and also of the deep water macroalgae of the Western Mediterranean.

Plan:

We want to contract a technician to do the job. The sheets are already included in a database, thus, the work of the technician will be to put the barcode of the specimens and then scanner them.

We already have the material that is necessary to do the job. Thus, we have the barcodes, a high resolution scanner (EPSONV700) and a camera (CANON EOS80D) to take photographs of the bigger specimens.

The digitization will be performed in alphabetical order of genera in vascular plants and in alphabetical order of order in macroalgae.

Timetable:

We have calculated that with the budget of 2000 euros we can contract a technician during 150 hours. In such a period we think that the technician can scanner around 1500 specimens.
