Exploring the orchid diversity in the Andean – Amazonian foothills of Caquetá, Colombia
Project summary:
Caquetá, one of the 32 departments of Colombia, is a largely unexplored territory with an extraordinary ecosystem diversity. In this region, the Andean mountains intersect with the Amazon lowland landscapes. The proposed research seeks to explore orchid diversity Andean -Amazonian foothills of Caquetá. This will allow us to: (1) enhance the understanding of orchid diversity in this area; (2) strengthen orchid collections at the regional herbarium of La Universidad de la Amazonia, Florencia, Caquetá (HUAZ) and (3) train the next generation of orchid biologist from the local university.
