Patterns of phylogenetic diversity and barcoding of the highly threatened Mambilla Plateau flora.
Project summary:
I propose DNA barcode for the critically endangered Mambilla Plateau flora. The plateau has been considered a biodiversity hotspot with unique afromontane plant assemblages for which 40% of the 250 angiosperm species are local endemics. Yet, taxonomic exploration is poor in this highly threatened habitat. I will systematically barcoding vascular plant species in the MP, anticipating collecting at least 200 species (250 samples), with emphasis on endemics. The DNA sequence data will be analyzed towards inferring taxonomic and phylodiversity patterns of species on the plateau.
