Last frontier of the Cerrado: intensive collections for integrative studies and capacity building in MATOPIBA, Brazil
Project summary:
MATOPIBA is a prosperous region for agrobusiness in Brazil that includes vast areas of Cerrado in the states of Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia. The flora of the region is still poorly known, however recent work has shown that the potential for new species discovery is very high. Our team of women scientists is supervising students and working in several plant groups. We aim to study the Parque Nacional das Nascentes do Rio Parnaíba, making reference collections for small herbaria (Maranhão/Western Bahia), increasing their visibility and training a new generation of botanists.
