Taxonomic revision of the genus Sambucus (Viburnaceae) in East Africa

Project summary:

The genus Sambucus belongs to the family Viburnaceae, and encompasses a morphologically diverse group of plants that have always been confounded by taxonomists due to difficulties in their taxonomic delimitation. Phenotypic and genotypic variations within Sambucus species causes complications in detecting species boundaries. Although, previous researches on taxonomic status and molecular studies have been conducted in this genus, the taxonomic knowledge regarding the species found in East Africa are scarce.
