A Molecular Taxonomy of Bursera exequielii, and Integration of the Species into the Phylogeny of Genus Bursera.

Project summary:

This study uses molecular data (ITS, MatK, rps16, trnL-F regions) from Bursera species to determine the taxonomic placement of Bursera exequielii, a novel endemic species from Baja California Sur. We will test its hypothesized close relationship to B. microphylla and integrate it into the established genus phylogeny, providing insight into the region's plant evolution and informing conservation efforts.
