Setting the record straight on Sargassum (Fucales, Heterokontophyta) taxonomy in the Philippines

Project summary:

Sargassum taxonomy in the Philippines traditionally relied solely on morphology-based species delimitation. Most Sargassum resources in the country remain unexamined using molecular tools, and recent studies suggest that their diversity in the Philippines may be overestimated. As such, this research aims to re-examine the diversity and classification of Sargassum resources in the Philippines using molecular-assisted taxonomic techniques. Proper identification of these resources is crucial for developing management policies and advancing cultivation technologies.
