Systematics of Vernoniinae (Vernonieae, Asteraceae): unveiling the evolutionary history of exclusive lineages of Americas with phylogenomics, biogeography and macroevolution

Project summary:

The subtribe Vernoniinae is one of the most diverse groups among the American Vernonieae, and is notable for including Vernonia, a well-recognized North American genus with great historical significance within Asteraceae family, whose circumscription remains under discussion. We will elucidate the phylogenetic relationships and spatio-temporal evolution of Vernoniinae using high-throughput sequencing and target enrichment techniques, addressing its macroevolutionary and biogeographic patterns and proposing a stable and predictive classification system.
