Molecular taxonomy of Inocybaceae (Basidiomycota, Fungi) in West Africa

Project summary:

Currently, fungal species present in tropical regions are under-represented in the classification, unlike those in temperate zones where fungal taxonomy is better known. This study is mainly aimed at clarifying and making reliable the identification of Inocybaceae in West Africa using molecular tools. DNA will be extracted from dried basidiome and amplified using ITS, nLSU and RPB2 regions. Thus, this study should provide a better understanding of the taxonomy of Inocybaceae. It will also serve as a basis for studies on the early detection of Inocybaceae fungi in tropical Africa.
