Integrative Taxonomy, DNA Barcoding, and Chemo profiling of the Astavarga Group of Medicinal Plants

Project summary:

The project aims to systematically identify and authenticate the Astavarga group of eight rare and endangered medicinal plants, crucial in Ayurveda, through integrative taxonomy, DNA barcoding, and chemo profiling. These plants are native to the northwestern Himalayas, face threats from habitat loss, over-exploitation, and misidentification due to confusion in vernacular names. By combining traditional taxonomy, whole chloroplast genome sequencing, and chemotaxonomic techniques, the present study will establish a robust identification framework, aiding conservation and sustainable use.
