Unraveling cacao: systematics and evolution of Theobroma L. and Herrania Goudot (Malvaceae, Byttnerioideae)

Project summary:

We will undertake a revision of nomenclatural and taxonomic status of Theobroma and Herrania species (the cocoa group), associating it to an assessment of the morphological evolution and speciation modes in the group, bringing novel and highly-impactive contributions to systematics and evolution of a group with major symbolic and material importance to society.
