Taxonomic revision and micro-morphological studies of the genus Elatostema (Urticaceae) in India

Project summary:

Elatostema J.R.Forster & G.Forster is the second-largest and a complex genus of the nettle family comprising of c. 570 species and distributed in tropical and subtropical Africa, Asia and Oceania. Apart from Hooker’s and Fischer’s floristic treatment in India, no detailed taxonomic study of the genus is available. Moreover, since its establishment, the intergeneric and infrageneric delimitation has remained problematic. The present study aims at preparing a detailed taxonomic account and to contribute to the better understanding of the inter- and infrageneric delimitation of Elatostema.
