Taxonomy and Conservation of the Neotropical Genus Cenostigma Tul. (Leguminosae, Caesalpinioideae, Caesalpineae)
Project summary:
Cenostigma is a neotropical genus in the family Leguminosae, subfamily Caesalpinioideae, comprising 15 species distributed from Mexico to Argentina, mainly in dry forests, with Brazil as its diversity center. Although studies confirm its monophyly, species relationships remain uncertain. This project aims to review North American species in US herbaria, describe new species in Brazil, and assess the conservation of narrowly distributed taxa through field expeditions, morphological analyses, and niche modeling to predict future impacts.
