PHYLOGENETIC RELATIONSHIP OF SW ASIAN AND AFRICAN ASPARAGUS (ASPARAGACEAE)
Project summary:
A phylogenetic study of some relatively selected southwest Asian species of the genus Asparagus would be carried out to investigate phylogenetic origin and possible links with African elements. Phylogenetic inferences are going to be drawn based on four data sets; from plastid markers cpDNA (trnH-psbA, trnD-trnT and 3’ndhF) and nuclear DNA (phytochrome C (PHYC)).This phylogenetic investigation can be used to trace biogeographic history of south Asian species of Asparagus and hence infer the floristic links between African and southwest Asian flora
