Phylogeny and biogeography of the Neotropical genus Malanea Aubl. (Rubiaceae)
Project summary:
Malanea Aubl., Rubiaceae, has 38 neotropical species with a disjunction distribution in the Atlantic Forest and the Amazon. Phylogenetic studies that investigated relationships within Rubiaceae and the tribe Guettardeae did not clarify the monophyly of Malanea, nor its relationships to other genera due to the low species sampling. My PhD thesis project aims to infer and test Malanea phylogenetic and biogeographic relationships. This application for the IAPT grant aims to complement a grant that I received and enable me to extend my visit to study collections of the MO, US and NY herbaria.
