Phylogeography and chemical differentiation of New World bays (Litsea spp., Lauraceae)

Project summary:

In America, the genus Litsea comprises eight aromatic species frequently used as condiment and in folk medicine. Due to its intensive extraction, several species are considered to be at risk of extinction. However, the systematics and ecology of this genus has been seldom explores. In this project we employ molecular and chemical markers to perform an in-depth study of the ecology and systematics of the American species of Litsea in order to promote the conservation of this culturally and economically important group.
