Species delimitation in the Pterocaulon virgatum (L.) DC. complex (Inuleae, Asteraceae), a multidisciplinary approach

Project summary:

Pterocaulon is a genus restricted to open vegetation the genus occurs in the Americas and Australasia. The first complete phylogeny of Pterocaulon showed that the group is paraphyletic and requires nomenclatural changes to resolve this issue. The Pterocaulon virgatum species complex is represented by the latter species and by P. cordobense. There are some evidences about the existence of cryptic species in the P. virgatum complex. Furthermore, the relationships between the lineages of the complex have not been recovered with high support and require further investigations to delimit.
