Systematic of Mouriri and Votomita (Olisbeoideae, Melastomataceae).
Project summary:
The Neotropical genera Mouriri and Votomita (Olisbeoideae, Melastomataceae) consist of 86 and 10 species respectively. There are no studies about phylogeny on these genera thus does not permit us to understand questions about evolution and biogeography. IAPT grant funds will provide invaluable help to field and herbarium work in the Brazilian state of Amazonas, where about 17 species can be found and allow the collection of leaf material on silica gel to build the first molecular phylogeny for both genera.
