Andean mountains as a driving force for diversification in ferns: The genus Megalastrum (Dryopteridaceae) as a study system

Project summary:

This project examines how Andean uplift influenced diversification in the fern genus Megalastrum. Using fieldwork, herbarium and phylogenetic data, we will correlate diversification rates with paleoelevation and geomorphological changes. Because these ferns exhibit high endemism, they serve as a primary model for understanding how abiotic barriers shape tropical biodiversity.
