Projection and conservation of the FEZA Herbarium collections

Objective:
Main curation of the collections (algae, fungi and plants) and database housed in FEZA Herbarium.
Digitization of vouchers (database input and picture capture) to make it available for academics and the public.
Enrichment of the FEZA herbarium acquis interchanging vouchers with other national and international herbaria.
Offer a practical course on voucher preparation for algae and plants aimed to undergraduate students to promote the work done at FEZA.
Timetable:
Database curation: Review and update of the nomenclature of the species of each of the collections housed in the FEZA Herbarium. From March to September.
Predigitization: Selection of the specimens to be digitized. From April to October.
Digitization: Digitization of specimens of macroalgae; fungi and lichens; and vascular plants. From May to November.
Shipping to other herbaria: Separation and shipment of the material as an exchange with other herbaria in Mexico. First shipping: From May to July; Second ship: From September to November.
Broadcasting: Teaching of the assembly workshop of specimens belonging to vascular plants and algae. From June 12 to 14 (Intersemester period).
Report: Development of the report. December 2023-January 2024.

Dr. Eloy Solano Camacho was the curator and responsible for the FEZA collection until his death in December 2021. During the time that Dr. Solano was responsible and to date, other professors, researchers, and students have been working to maintain, increase, and make herbarium collections more accessible. The people who work at FEZA believe that we have valuable information on Mexico's biodiversity, which is useful for the scientific community and may also be of interest to the general public. Therefore, it is necessary to make this information available. curated, updated and digitized. The research group at FEZA herbarium consists of six lecturers and researchers on different groups of algae, fungi and plants. The collections have grown through many funded projects aimed to floristics and taxonomy. Students are invited to attend short stances and to do a thesis to obtain a degree. Although the collections are constantly curated, there is a lack of adequate equipment or it is insufficient. Therefore, there is a clear need to improve the database input and digitization.
For database and voucher digitization, a computer and storage drives are required for database management and pictures. For image capture a camera and a white box is required.
This process will be done by academics and students. A specific short stance project will be open to students to improve the capture.
