Digitization and nomenclature of IUK/ herbaria in the DRC

Objective:
I. General objective
1) Digitization and revision of the nomenclature of all specimens of the above mentioned families housed at IUK,
2) Careful examination of each specimen in order to give a good botanical determination,
3) Digitization of each herbaria specimen in general and endemic in particular.
II. Specific objectives
- Inventory each specimen in the herbarium of the above-mentioned families and the pocket herbarium belonging to the family Acanthaceae, Asteraceae, Rubiaceae, Fabaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Poaceae;
- Encode the specimens belonging to each family in an excel file
Timetable:
March-April 2025: Inventory of herbarium families and revision of the nomenclature of each specimen
May-July 2025: Coding of specimens of the families samplied in the excel file according to Brams
July-August 2025: Selection of specimens in poor condition to be replaced by new collection from the field
September-December 2025: Digitalization of specimens sampled. In addition, I will draft the activity report for scientific purposes.

The inventory of herbaria specimens of Acanthaceae, Asteraceae, Rubiaceae, Fabaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Poaceae, the nomenclatural revision of specimens of the above-mentioned families housed at the IUK herbarium will be done from the Flores and according to Vogel (1987): case of the Flora of Central Africa new series and recently published articles and with the help of websites (Tropicos, Worldflora, Plantlist). Each specimen after the nomenclature update will be digitized according to the international standard of Global plant initiative at 600 dpi, all digitized herbaria specimens will be stored on an external disk for later online posting. Each herbaria in the destruction phase will be the subject of the inventory with a view to a new harvest.
