Objective:
Current efforts to digitize biological specimens undoubtedly contribute to faster and less costly access, as well as safety for the use of collections, as information and associated collections or images of collections specimens can be accessed from any location without the need to contact the physical collections directly.
• Increasing the collection and the database with the insertion of new specimen records;
• To create an open-access digital collection of the LUBA herbarium specimens.
With the implementation of this project, we aim to add 1000 new registers to the database.
Timetable:
TASK 1- Mounting sheets (Mar-April), the team already has experience on mounting sheets, we hope to work on it and mounting more than one thousand specimens and introduce the information relative to the database, this will contribute to both improving the database and the collection.
We understand that the first part of the project will consist of the acquisition of mounting paper, and other important materials for mounting, we hope that at the end of this task at least 1000 specimens should be added to the collection.
TASK 2- Database (March to May), at the same time of sheets are mounting we will introduce the information of them on the database Specify www.specifysoftware.org in the other side the metadata and barcode will be provided by a spreadsheet in excel, these two tasks will be carried together
TASK 3- Digitalization (May to July), the standard image with a high resolution of 600 dpi, will be captured by the Epson Expression 10000 XL, digitalization machine, all the images will be processed by the Abode Photoshop software.
TASK 4- Report, (August) at the end of the project will produce a complete report about the whole process and facts that occurred during the project.

The Herbarium of Lubango has a small collection of around 19.000 specimens, spread over 208 families, 1,275 genera, and more than 4,000 species of vascular plants, with a strong representation of the Southwest region of the country. The specimens are registered in an Excel database, which is still being updated with the insertion of new specimens collected through projects carried out by the Herbarium teams over the years.
During the last years we have collected many specimens and samples through some projects carried out by the LUBA, as result, we have stored a lot of specimens being already identified waiting to be mounted on the sheets and added to the database and consequently in the collection.
So, the Digitize of specimens that will be selected according to their importance, for Angola, Huíla, endemicity, rarity or another important aspect, represents the way of generating a digital collection which is important for conservation and consults from anywhere.
The digitalization will comply with the quality criteria demanded by JSTOR, that is to say that the images will have standardized measures and characteristics, according to the current rules, to guarantee the quality of the same ones, they will be treated in Adobe photoshop program.
The selected exsiccata will be given a barcode number generated by combining the registration number and the herbarium acronym.
