Objective:

-Increase the VALPL´s herbarium database collection of Universidad de Playa Ancha, through digitization, standarization and publication of non-registered specimens.
- Use the DarwinCore Standard and GBIF platform as a reference to integrate specimens collected in exceptional geographical locations of Chile into the VALPL´s Herbarium database collection.
-Add 2500 (at least) dried plant specimens into VAlPL´s database collection using the DarwinCore Standard.

Timetable:

March:
- Classify in “detemined” and “non-determined” specimens according to location
- Re-organize specimens according to date
- Add specimens into database using the DarwinCore Standard
April:
- Add specimens into the herbarium database
May:
- Add specimens to Herbarium database
- Publish the full database into de GBIF´s platform

Collection Improvement (max. 120 points)

Facilitating access to the physical collections by digitization (e.g., data entry, setting up database structure with an outline of the platform to be used, purchasing equipment, and imaging specimens) – up to 30 points.
Enhancing physical collections by improving the conservation status of specimens in the herbarium (e.g., better folders, protecting covers, mounting paper, labeling, etc.) – up to 30 points.
Curating specimens (e.g., updating families, species identification, identifying types) – up to 20 points.
Increasing our understanding of the flora or funga by making new herbarium specimens available, such as processing of backlog or collecting and mounting of new specimens from understudied sites – up to 20 points.
Securing collections by distribution of duplicates (or orphan collections) to other regional or international herbaria or shipping endangered collections to another herbarium – up to 20 points.

Finance 3 months of a qualified technician work to increase the VALPL´s Herbarium database with high-quality standards considering the following criteria:
- Specimen geolocalization
- Collection date
- Add information according to DarwinCore Standard
- Adapt and upload the information according to de GBIF´s format
- Add at least 50 specimens per day

The goal of improve the plant database will be achieve meeting the following specific classification criteria:
- Taxonomical classification
- Collection Data (Collector name, Collector Number, Location, geographical coordinates, Observations of - collecting, date of Collection).
- Conservation state (IUCN category)
- Geographical origin (endemic, native, introduced, etc)
- Determination data
