Objective:
This project aims to improve and upgrade the PALM Herbarium, creating reference mycological and botanical collections of North-Western Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil.
Timetable:
January to December 2020 – duplicate the number of plant and fungi samples
January to December 2020 – all the collection digitalized in BRAHMS
March to December 2020 – Update data from the cataloged samples
July 2021 – Make the data available on the website of INCT Virtual Herbarium of Flora and Fungi;
July 2021 – Provide a preliminary database of the local flora to be released by SpeciesLink (CRIA)

The PALM Herbarium is a small herbarium with 1000 samples of plants (mainly Poaceae) and 200 samples of lichens. Since 2014, the plant collection is restrict to a small room (10 m2) and the mycological collection is in my office, making impossible its growth. The herbarium will move to its definitive building in March 2020. In the new building, the herbarium will have a room with 30 m2, a room for equipments with 25 m2 and another room with 12 m2 for visitors and desks with computer for digitisation. My propose is to increase the collection with representative samples from the flora and mycota from the semidecidual Atlantic Forest of North-Western Rio Grande do Sul State. We still have two very important natural reserve close to the university campus, Parques Estaduais do Turvo and Papagaio Charão, the first one considered one of the most important interior Atlantic forest in Brazil. The flora and mycota from these reserves are quite unknown and are poorly represented in herbaria.
The PALM Herbarium nowadays counts with the main equipments, cabinets and the proximity with these two reserves make low cost field trips possible. However, there is no air conditioning or dehumidification equipment in the new building and we do not have financial support perspectives in the current political situation in Brazil. Also, the Herbarium has a small digital camera and a good computer with BRAHMS, but with no External HD for back up of the digitisation data of the collection (mainly the
