Report of the 2017 Nomenclature Section meeting

We are pleased to announce that the report of the 2017 Nomenclature Section meeting in Shenzhen, China has been published in PhytoKeys:

Lindon HL, Hartley H, Knapp S, Monro AM, Turland NJ (2020) XIX International Botanical Congress, Shenzhen: report of the Nomenclature Section, 17th to 21st July 2017. PhytoKeys 150: 1–276. DOI: https://doi.org/10.3897/phytokeys.150.50687 [PDF available free at this link; print copy may be ordered from Pensoft]

This 276 page proceedings document is essentially a transcript of the discussions held over the five days of the Section’s meeting in July 2017. The end result of the discussions and decisions that were made in Shenzhen is the new version of the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi and plants (ICN), which was published in June 2018. The Code is amended every six years at an International Botanical Congress (IBC).

One of the most important contributions that the International Association for Plant Taxonomy makes is to facilitate our system of nomenclature for plants, fungi, and algae. We do this through a wide range of activities, including publication of nomenclature proposals in Taxon, publication of the Code and other nomenclatural resources, organizing and funding short courses and workshops on nomenclature, and development of databases and other essential resources, many of which are made available on our website. Your membership in IAPT helps us accomplish these important activities. Thank you!
