Call for Nominations: Engler Medal in Gold

Dear colleagues,

The Engler Medal in Gold is the most prestigious award conferred by the International Association for Plant Taxonomy. It is given every six years at the International Botanical Congress. The Engler Medal in Gold is awarded in recognition of outstanding lifetime contributions to taxonomy and systematics of plants, algae, or fungi. The first award was given in 1987 and in 2024 IAPT will confer the seventh Engler Medal in Gold. Information about IAPT awards can be found on the IAPT website: https://www.iaptglobal.org/awards.

These are the previous Engler Medal in Gold awardees:

1987 Frans A. Stafleu (Utrecht), IBC-XIV, Berlin, Aug. 1987

1993 William T. Stearn (London), IBC-XV, Tokyo, Sep. 1993

1999 Peter H. Raven (St. Louis), IBC-XVI, St. Louis, Aug. 1999

The Engler Medal in Gold award committee is now soliciting nominations of candidates to be considered for this prestigious award. Please send your nominations to Patrick Herendeen, IAPT President (pherendeen@chicagobotanic.org). Your nomination letter should provide an explanation as to why the nominee merits recognition for “outstanding lifetime contributions to taxonomy and systematics of plants, algae or fungi.” Please submit letters of nomination by 28 February, 2023.

Patrick Herendeen

IAPT President, chair of the Engler Medal in Gold award committee
