IAPT Early Career Investigator Symposium 2026: A Mediterranean–European Perspective

The International Association for Plant Taxonomy (IAPT) fosters scientific research and scholarship across plant, fungal, and algal systematics, evolution, and taxonomy. To champion the next generation of scientists, the IAPT established the Early Career Investigator Symposium series, designed to showcase the work of emerging botanists, mycologists, and phycologists. These symposia travel annually to different international conferences, aligning each event's core theme with the unique focus of the host meeting.
At the 19th Panhellenic Scientific Conference, organized by the Hellenic Botanical Society in Volos, Greece, the symposium theme is “Advances in Taxonomy and Systematics: A Mediterranean–European Perspective”. This event will showcase emerging approaches, new discoveries, and evolving perspectives shaping the future of systematics across the Mediterranean and Europe.
The symposium aims to highlight innovative research by early-career scientists and to promote visibility, scientific exchange, and collaboration within the international systematics community. With contributions from researchers based across Greece, Sweden, Spain, Germany, Cyprus, and Italy, the programme reflects the increasingly international and collaborative nature of modern taxonomy and systematics.
IAPT is dedicated to cultivating an inclusive, supportive space where participants can exchange expertise, forge professional networks, and build lasting collaborations. By offering a platform for early-career scientists and championing international exchange, the IAPT reinforces its commitment to empowering the future of systematics and strengthening the global research community.
